Content Management

Content Management (also known as Document Management) is designed to make the creation, saving, organizing, retrieval and archiving of company data easier, faster and more secure.

Content/Document Management allows users to manage documents and emails from a central location. The solution includes features such as version control, document profiling, document search, and security.

Content Management is document and web content management, search, collaboration, digital asset management, workflow management, and capture and scanning. It manages the life cycle of information, from initial publication (or creation) through archival and eventual disposal.

Content Management solutions can be on-premise, installed on your server infrastructure or Web/cloud-based as Software as a Service (SaaS), depending on what works best for you.

The primary features and benefits of a content management solution are:

  1. Manage digital assets – making it easy and quick to find the business content that has already been created or saved within a company
  2. Offers content security so that information is only accessible by approved users, whether company employees or people outside the company with whom it has been shared
  3. Provides a centralized storage system for content
  4. Create, retain and distribute information, whether internally or to clients
  5. Makes it easy to search and retrieve information/documents previously created within the organization – thus, no reinventing the wheel
  6. Automate workflows

All of this saves time, saves money and increases employee productivity.

SharePoint is a web-based collaboration and document management system developed by Microsoft. It was first released in 2001 as a platform for building intranet portals, content management systems, and document management systems.

Initially, SharePoint was primarily used as a content management system and collaboration platform for large organizations. Its early versions focused on document sharing and collaboration, with basic features such as version control, check-in/check-out, and document approval workflows.

Over time, SharePoint evolved to become a more robust document management solution, with features such as enterprise search, records management, and document retention policies.

In 2007, Microsoft released SharePoint Server 2007, which introduced several new features, including enhanced search capabilities, business intelligence tools, and improved workflows. Over time, Microsoft has added additional features, including social networking, mobile device support, and improved integration with Microsoft Office.
